Green shoots

Green shoots

Hello Everyone,

…and hello to the new growth which is popping up all over the farm. Above you can see the Lovage is sprouting. It is tiny, as is the Fennel, Chives, Parsley, Mint and Carraway which are also appearing in the herb gardens. Shades of green are dotted everywhere and is just a vision of Spring freshness. They are tiny plants now but ask me how big they are in four weeks…

The green continues everywhere…a green hue is covering the trees…the leaves will be arriving shortly.

The green houses are now full of tiny green shoots. Spinach, Rocket, Celeriac, Lettuces, Tomatoes, Peppers, Aubergines, Beans, and more have fresh tiny little leaves. These first shoots are balanced out with a root growing down into the growing compost. The root takes up moisture from the compost while the leaves use the light to photosynthesise. Now the plant begins to grow.

Our crops all start from seeds and most of them begin life in the greenhouse. There are a few crops which are sown directly in to a bed. With the help of Grandson number two, Grandad Bob has sown Radish seeds directly into polytunnel four. Over the next few weeks we will be sowing seeds of Turnips, Carrots, Parsnips and Spring Onions, all directly into the ground. These crops will grow in situ but they will still start with tiny green leaves and a root reaching out for water and nutrients in the compost.

All future growth will be monitored. When the plants in the greenhouses need to be planted out into the tunnels or the outside growing area they will all be watered, maybe fed and tended till harvest. So the gardening year and  the new seasons come around. It is just how I like it.

Bob and I would like to thank you for your continued support. We have been really busy delivering our boxes during the Winter Season and it would appear that the Spring Season has started just as busy. So this is a reminder to get your orders in quickly before we close the shop.

Do not forget that we have our gardening course which is running over two separate Sundays in July…both days are filling, so book early is my recommendation.

Thank you for returning all our boxes and egg boxes…it is a huge help.

Take care,
