Where is the Summer......

Where is the Summer......

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are well, but where is the summer?

However, with all the rain we have had, the produce is growing madly! The polytunnels and greenhouses are watered daily. That is a given. But, we have very rarely had to water anything we are growing outside.

The Pond Field is now full of carrots, leeks, cauliflowers, red cabbage, summer cabbages, broccoli, celeriac, fennel, turnips, Jerusalem artichokes, sweetcorn, beetroot and Aztec broccoli (more of this new vegetable in the future). They have only been watered when they were planted or sown……it is June, we are supposed to be watering!!!

The Green Field has summer squash, winter squash, globe artichokes and all the soft fruits and they have probably only needed watering once or twice.

The herb garden is bountiful and smells delightful. Lots of seeds were dropped from the herbs sown last year. The new seeds we planted this year are nearly all thriving in the wet conditions. We have decided to offer bunches of mixed herbs on our website. They can be placed into a jug as a lovely mass of greenery to look at. They will smell divine. Or you could use them in your cooking and make your meals taste that little extra special. There is a mixture of Sage, Fennel Herb, Oregano, Lovage, Mint, Coriander, French Sorrel, Chives, Rosemary, Thyme and Parsley.

We are at Jesmond Food Market on Saturday, by which time the summer weather will have arrived. Hooray!!!

Take care,

Ann
