Our Produce

Cucumber

We love growing cucumbers as much as we love eating them. You’ll find three different types of cucumber at Hexhamshire Organics - the traditional salad cucumber, gherkin and Crystal Lemon. The salad variety we grow is called Marketmore and is prolific - during the summer months it can be hard to keep up with the volume of fruit it produces! The gherkin variety is called Excelsior and is excellent for pickling, whilst the Crystal Lemon type produces small, round cucumbers with a refreshing, citrus taste. Our cucumber seeds are sewn in early March, then transplanted to the polytunnels in April ready for harvesting to begin in July.
